Our hackerspace, now renamed '''Garoa Hacker Clube''', is at an early stage. We are discussing the creation of a non-profit association to support our finances and organization. We are currently planning hacking activities. From Nov 18 2010 there will be a weekly [http://garoa.net.br/wiki/Eventos/Arduino Arduino day]. We have been in a permanent space for 3 onths, and it is constantly being improved. We still need to purchase lots of equipment. We have a Cupcake CNC, Arduinos, basic electronics, soldering tools, old hardware and books.

'''Garoa Hacker Clube''' is a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackerspace hackerspace] in São Paulo, the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere.
Our hackerspace is located at the basement of the CCD (House of Digital Culture), in Santa Cecilia district, downtown Sao Paulo. The hackerspace is currently active. Some members have the key to the space, and we usually hang out there on weekends and at night on special days during the week

In other words, it is a community-run laboratory where people can exchange knowledge and experiences, meet, socialize, collaborate and share.
On Saturday, August 28th 2010, GHC (Garoa Hacker Clube) was inaugurated in a small room at [http://garapa.org/2009/06/casa-da-cultura-digital/ Casa da Cultura Digital] (House of Digital Culture). We stayed there from 10am until approx. 8pm and around 11 people attended. We have done some maintenance work in the room, installing power outlets and better ambient illumination. We also installed a new shelf in one of the walls where we intend to accommodate some instruments (oscilloscope?) in the near future.

Our core principles are:
There was a lot of conversation and ideas exchange. We also had short informal tutoring on digital electronics and soldering.

  +
*free and universal access to the knowledge generated under our premises
  +
*self-funding through our member fees and community donations
  +
*freedom for members to propose and implement individual or collective projects

Planned since mid-2009 and building since August 2010, Garoa Hacker Clube is officially up and running. Since November 2010 there is a weekly Arduino night. We've been in a permanent space since September 2010, and it is constantly being improved. We have a 3D printer, a CNC machine, Arduinos and other embedded platforms, basic electronic components, power supplies, a function generator, an oscilloscope, soldering irons and PCB manufacturing tools, old hardware, books, oldschool video games and a homebrew pinball machine. On February 20th 2011 we have setup a non-profit association to support our finances and organization. On February 2013 we moved to much larger facilities, with a multi-use conference room, electronics lab, a kitchen, a library, a studio/game room, a storage room, a dark/dirty room and lots of space to make barbecue and socialize.
